Fairmont Dog Park closes after a possible canine parvovirus exposure.
The potential contamination has led to the park’s second closure this year.
Dr. Richard Kitterman is an associate veterinarian. He says canine parvovirus is a disease that spreads from dog-to-dog via feces, affecting them in various ways.
Symptoms of parvo typically are bloody diarrhea, vomiting and fever.
Riley County’s EMS public information officer says the issue comes from owners not taking proper precautions and not vaccinating their pets.
Park officials say it’s important to follow the guidance provided to ensure safety for the dogs.
